The formidable Kreuzberg peak rises above Bischofsheim. The Kreuzberg looks back on a century-old tradition as a place of pilgrimage, giving it the byname of “the sacred mountain of the Franconians”. But not only pilgrims, also many hikers, vacationers and excursionists feel and follow the magic attraction of the Kreuzberg. From the top, you have a vast view of Franconia, the surrounding Rhön mountains all the way to the Thuringian Forest and the Spessart.
The monastery was completed in 1692. Since 1731, they have had their own brewery. This is where the famous Kreuzberg beer is brewed. Pilgrims and visitors meet in the monastery’s restaurant for hearty home-style cooking in a traditional, rustic atmosphere and are spoilt with lavish hospitality. A stop in the monastery’s taproom is an absolute must for everyone visiting the Rhön region. Another attraction the Kreuzberg offers is the "Brother Francis House”, where a permanent exhibition is dedicated to Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan Order.
